The art of life is not controlling what happens to us, but using what happens to us. – Gloria Steinem
Gloria Steinem was a key figure of the women’s liberation movement in the 1960’s and 70’s. She was a journalist who worked as a political columnist for “New York” Magazine and co-founded “Ms” magazine. She went undercover to expose working conditions at the Playboy Club. She wrote boldly during a time when women were pressured to choose between career and marriage.
Throughout my life much in the way of medical mayhem was not in my control. And being a control freak, my initial response is how I can “fix it”. But age and time have taught me that while I can’t “fix” nor control everything; I do have a choice on how I react, and adapt to what is happening. And as they say, attitude is half the battle.
In her quote above she clearly tells us that we get to decide the impact our experience will have on our lives. Life happens. But it is what you do with it that matters. We have a choice. What choices will you make today?
