We went through fire and water, but you brought us to a place of abundance \u2013 Psalm 66:12<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

My daughter, Francesca, developed an eating disorder.\u00a0 The need to control coupled with her need to be \u201cperfect\u201d eventually threatened to destroy her life.\u00a0 I did what any caring mother would do \u2013 I yelled, cried, pleaded, reasoned, threatened, negotiated, bribed, and generally created what my daughter called \u201cThe Food Wars\u201d!\u00a0 Nothing worked, not even eight weeks at a rehabilitation center.<\/p>\n

One day, Francesca came into my office, smiling and joyful, full of life.\u00a0 The dichotomy of her spirit with her appearance was so apparent that I began to cry.\u00a0 She was so incredibly thin; she looked old and sickly.<\/p>\n

\u201cFrancesca,\u201d I told her, \u201cyou are killing yourself, and I can do nothing to stop it.\u00a0 If you continue this way, you will die.\u201d<\/p>\n

She replied, \u201cI don\u2019t want to die, Mom.\u201d<\/p>\n

I told her, \u201cI believe you, honey, but that is what is going to happen.\u00a0 But after five years, I\u2019ve realized that I can\u2019t stop you.\u00a0 No more fighting, and no more nagging.\u00a0 I will just love you and pray for you.\u00a0 I cannot control this, I never could, and I know this now.\u00a0 The only one who can make the change is you with God\u2019s help.\u201d<\/p>\n

Francesca began to cry, and we held each other in love and surrender.<\/p>\n

My daughter\u2019s eating disorder wasn\u2019t instantly eliminated in that moment of surrender, but it was a catalyst for change.\u00a0 Our relinquishing control and accepting God as the ultimate healer allowed her to change her behavior and seek medical attention.\u00a0 And it allowed me to accept and have faith in God the Father.<\/p>\n

Today, Francesca is healthy and has a beautiful baby boy.\u00a0 In giving control to God, she regained a healthy life and has given life!\u00a0 She is full of grace and thanksgiving, and cannot wait to teach her son about God, the great healer!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
