May God Bless America – Because the Lord Knows We Need It

Is it just me or are you frightened for our country?  Maybe its because I have more time to listen to our elected officials and leaders of this country.  I was too busy with a husband, a young one, and a business to really listen to what was happening in our country at that time.  Or perhaps as I age, I have more fear.  When I look back to my younger days, I cringe at the chances I took – never being concerned with the “what ifs”.

Whatever the reason, I am filled with trepidation and fear.  And when I get this way, I realize that the only solution is to pray.  Because we need to fight fear with faith and ask for courage.  Because courage is fear that has said its prayers.

So will you take a moment to pause from your busy day, take a deep breath and join me in prayer?

Holy Spirit we ask you to come into our hearts and bring us into your perspective and not the worlds. Father God, you are so much bigger than anything we are facing right now.  Let us take comfort in your authority, and hope.

For I am the Lord your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you.  Isaiah 41:13.

 Lord, we ask for prayer for the poll sites and the counting of votes.  May it be sate, fair, and accessible to all.  May each location be safe, and the volunteers be filled with your peace as they endeavor to work efficiently and with integrity.  We pray that the votes will be counted with accuracy and without discrepancy.

May your Son Jesus – the Prince of Peace reign over our nation and its people.  Help those who feel anger, frustration, and fear seek You rather than violence. We pray for peace throughout our precious land, regardless of the outcome.

But wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere.    James 3:17

God please give us the wisdom to cast our vote with sincerity.  We thank first time voters and pray that they may endeavor to learn all they can about the candidates on both the state and federal level.   It is such a wonderful gift, and right as a US citizen to vote.  And because of this, Lord, we ask that you give us godly wisdom and allow us to be led by the Holy Spirit and NOT by media, infamous people and the societal norms of today.

Lord, God, let us remember that Jesus has the ultimate authority over evil in our world.  Let us pray against the fear, despair, violence and evil that can fill our hearts.

 Lord, make me a channel of thy peace,
that where there is hatred, I may bring love;
that where there is wrong,  I may bring the spirit of forgiveness;
that where there is discord, I may bring harmony;
that where there is error, I may bring truth;
that where there is doubt, I may bring faith;
that where there is despair, I may bring hope;
that where there are shadows, I may bring light;
that where there is sadness, I may bring joy… – The Prayer of St. Francis

We pray for the media – that they may report accurately and truthfully. That they may stimulate conversation and not division.  Let them speak in truth and in love and not judgement or opinions.  Please God, work among the media to shed light on all that is hidden.

Lord, let us pray for the leaders that God would bless each candidate with wisdom and grace.  May you direct them to foster unity and peace rather than slander and dissension.  May you intervene to bring the leaders who will best serve your vision for our nation.

I urge you, first of all, to pray for all people.  Ask God to help then; intercede on their behalf, and give thanks for them.  Pray this way for kings and all who are in authority so that we can live peaceful and quiet lives marked by godliness and dignity.  1 Timothy 2:1-3

 And finally, Lord we ask that you create a government of justice and righteousness in our nation.  That all forms of injustice and corruption be exposed and destroyed.  Help those in power to actively fight against all forms of oppression and discrimination, allowing freedom to flourish.

Most gracious, and merciful God, we rest in the knowledge that regardless of the outcome of this election and our future; with our faith in You; you will never leave us, for your love is eternal and we will be with you for all eternity.  Whatever the pain, we have the promise.

We pray this in the name of Jesus Christ.  Amen

I don’t know about you, but I always feel more at peace when I have spent time in prayer.  The difficulty, of course, is to hold on to that feeling of peace.  The solution?  Keep prayed up!  Pray popcorn prayers all throughout your day.  There is peace in prayer.  May you be blessed with a peace that surpasses all understanding through this election period and beyond.
